SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS (STI’s)
Having unprotected sex is the way STI’s are caught and passed on to each other. Using a CONDOM is one of the ways to increase your level of safety from disease when having sex. The only other way is NOT to have sex.
The most common Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s) include:
Chlamydia:-
· The most common STI in young people, there are NO symptoms at first to let you know you have Chlamydia. To keep yourself safe if you have had sex without using a condom you must get yourself tested. This is a very simple process all you need to do is give a wee sample. The test can be taken at your doctors or you can buy a testing kit from the chemist. Young People 13 -25 can receive a free kit, by ordering on line that is delivered direct to an address of your choice – Chlamydia screening web sites. The Doctor will not inform your parents that you have visited him/her if you ask them not to. If you use the free kit, in some cases the treatment can be sent direct to you as well
· If you have been exposed to Chlamydia and do not get tested and receive treatment to cure it. It could lead to pains in the lower stomach and when you’re older could prevent you from having a baby.
· Treatment for Chlamydia is a course of antibiotics.
